Use Your Head

“Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky  as you hold firmly to the word of life.” Philippians 2:16

Somewhere out there, somone is looking for the truth. They find the mixed messages of the media confusing. Their own flesh tells them to do whatever they want, but it has only led to terrible consequences. They have tried to make themselves over and they do alright for a while, but it always ends in defeat. They are afraid to try again, and they are losing hope of ever finding what works. Joy illudes them. Happiness may come for short visits, but despair has squatter’s rights.

You and I have what their heart is craving. We have Jesus. He wants to heal their broken hearts, He wants to release them from the slavery of their own destructive appetites. He wants to give sight for their blindness, and He desires that they not only have life but have it more abundantly.

One of those hurting people may live in the house next to yours or sit in the next cubicle. They may be too polite or proud to tell you how desperate they are, but you can be sure that if they do not have Jesus, their life is less than what God dreamed for them. How do you let them know your secret to life?

Use your head.

Use those eyes of yours to pay attention to their expressions and body language. Be on the lookout for an opportunity to share your life and your Life-Giver. Use your ears to hear what they are saying. Listen between the lines. Turn your face toward them when it would be easier to stare straight ahead. Dare to engage. They may have all but given up hope of connecting in a real way with someone. They have heard so much about religion that they may overlook Jesus because they do not understand He is not like the others. They will believe you if you let them see Him from your perspective. Tell them about Him! The future-them is begging you to see them, hear them, know them, and save them. It need not be a grand gesture, just an authentic one. Who does God want you to use your head to reach today?

Welcome to Myencourageyou.com! I am Dr. Georgia Pointer, a Christian writer who loves encouraging people in their relationship with Christ. I am a survivor of childhood rape and molestation, bullying, and emotional abuse. Negative thought patterns plagued me for many years until I learned to allow Christ and His Word to encourage and transform those thoughts. This background provides me with a passion to offer the same encouragement to anyone, not just abuse survivors, with the light of biblical truth that shines against the darkness of negativity, lies of the enemy, and daily struggles in living for Christ. I am a seminary graduate with a Masters in Christian Education. I also recently received my doctorate in Christian Counseling with a specialty in Family and Substance Abuse counseling. I served on staff for six years as a counselor at Moriah House of the Memphis Union Mission. I love the Word of God! I love studying it, teaching it, and speaking in public about it any chance I get. This blog, which I post about once a week, is my venue to share insights I glean. I invite you to subscribe to receive my weekly posts in your email and to share these posts with anyone you think might be encouraged by them.
